Respecting Our College and Each Other

To manage your enrolment at JCC you need to:

Attend

Maintaining regular attendance — We ask that all enrolled students at JCC maintain a high level of attendance.

Communicating absences — If you are absent from JCC we ask for you to contact your Advisory Youth Worker to let them know you won't be attending school that day(s).

Signing In & Signing Out

We ask all students and visitors to sign in upon arrival and sign out as you are leaving for the day. If you leave the premises during the day, without a staff member present (i.e. to go to the shops for lunch etc), please remember to sign out and then sign back in when you return.

The reason we sign in and out is for safety. If there was a fire or emergency we need to know who is in the building.

Participate in Advisory

Each student is allocated an advisory and a learning team, consisting of an Advisory Youth Worker and an Advisor (Teacher).

It is expected that all JCC students will participate in attending Advisory each day:

• Morning: 10.00am – 12.00pm
• After lunch: 12.30pm – 2.00pm (no afternoon sessions on Wednesdays)

Or be learning in alternative spaces as documented in your learning plan and timetable.

Check-outs

Check in and out each day in your Advisory and with your Learning Support Team.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday — 2.00pm–2.30pm

Individual Learning Plan (ILP)

Students are expected to develop and maintain a current ILP, to work from. The ILP is a document created for students to set detailed goals they would like to achieve whilst at JCC.

It is expected that each student has a current ILP throughout their enrolment at JCC.

Work within the JCC 5R's — Rights, Respect, Relationships, Responsibilities, Reflection

You are working within the JCC 5R's or you are working with us to better work within the JCC 5R's. We will support you to understand the importance of working within the 5R's while at JCC, and how we can best support you.

At Jabiru Community College, we are guided by the 5Rs:

• Rights — Everyone has the right to feel safe, included and respected.
• Relationships — We build trust and community through care and connection.
• Respect — We treat others with dignity, even when we don't agree.
• Responsibility — We take ownership of our actions and how they affect others.
• Reflection — We take time to think, learn and grow from our experiences.

These values ask us to act with openness, kindness, curiosity, intention and consent.

This agreement is here to help everyone feel safe, included and supported. By signing this contract, you agree to do your best to live these values at school.

We Practise Consent and Personal Boundaries

• Always check before hugging, touching, or sitting close to someone.
• Get permission before you take photos, videos, or record others.

We Speak and Act with Kindness

• Use calm and respectful language, even during disagreements.

We Follow the Smoking and Vaping Rules

• Smoking and vaping are only allowed in the designated area — outside the school grounds.
• It's against the law to vape or smoke or charge vapes in any other part of the school.
• Keep vapes, cigarettes, and lighters out of sight unless in the smoking area.

We Keep the School Safe and Lawful

• Bring only safe and legal items to school. This means no weapons, knives, drugs, alcohol, or other illegal things.
• Keep school free from drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substances. It's illegal to use, share, or bring them anywhere on school grounds.
• If you choose to act in physically violent or threatening ways, off site or on site, it can result in being asked to leave JCC.
• Posting or sending bullying or threatening messages — online or offline, at school or off site — is not ok. It can result in being asked to leave JCC.
• Racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic or other discriminatory comments are not ok at JCC.
• Only enrolled students are allowed on site. Adults must make appointments and sign in.
• Families and community are welcome to come onsite for Community Lunch on Wednesdays, 12–1pm.

We Look After Personal Belongings

• Only bring valuables to school if absolutely necessary & keep them secure.
• Use a locker or ask staff to store important items safely.
• The school is not responsible if things are lost or stolen.

We Use Spaces and Equipment Properly

• Ride scooters, bikes, or skateboards outdoors only.
• Store bikes and scooters in the storeroom.
• Wear a helmet when riding to or from school.
• Balls, furniture, or large items can't be thrown inside the building.
• Clean up after yourself and care for shared areas.
• Use equipment safely and report damage or problems to staff.

We Work Through Problems

• If something feels wrong or unfair, speak to staff or fill out a complaint form.
• If someone is hurt or upset, take part in a conversation to fix things.
• Participate in 5Rs reflections, safety plans, or restorative meetings when needed.
• Breaking the agreement may mean leaving for the day, or taking time off to reset and reflect.

Child Protection Laws at School

Your Voice, Your Safety, Our Responsibility

We want this environment to be a place where you feel completely respected, supported, and safe. Under the Queensland Child Safe Standards, you have the absolute right to have a say in decisions that affect you, to speak up if something isn't right, and to be taken seriously when you do.

We also operate under a Universal Principle when it comes to safety: we are deeply committed to ensuring our students feel culturally safe, connected, and empowered. No matter your background, your identity, or your culture, your wellbeing is our top priority.

Because your safety matters above everything else, you need to know we are all Mandatory Reporters.

What does that mean for you?

• We are here to listen: If you are struggling, feeling unsafe, or need advice, we are always available to talk. We want you to come to us.
• We cannot keep dangerous information: If you tell us that you or another young person has been harmed, or is at risk of being harmed, we cannot keep that to ourselves. By law, we are required to report it to the people whose job it is to protect you, like Child Safety Services or the police (if it is sexual assault).
• We will support you: Being a mandatory reporter doesn't mean we just pass on information and walk away. If a report needs to be made, we will support you through the process, explain what is happening, and make sure you aren't alone.

We will always respect your privacy as much as possible, but we will always choose your safety first. If you ever need help, or just need to talk, we are here for you.
