We understand that supporting young people requires specialised skills, resilient teams and strong wellbeing support. At Jabiru, our ratio of teachers to youth workers always sits at 1:1.

All of us have completed specialised training in trauma-informed care, and receive ongoing professional supervision. We emphasise the importance of continuous reflective practice, preventing staff burnout and ensuring that the care we deliver remains safe, empathetic and informed by best-practice.

We always ensure that our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people feel welcome, safe, valued, included and respected. Over half of our young people have First Nations heritage, and we proudly promote a strong connection to culture, kin and community, led by our dedicated First Nations Cultural Workers.

Jabiru runs an exceptionally flexible, inside-out curriculum called Big Picture Learning Design, which is run at over 50 schools in Australia and 275 worldwide. At a Big Picture school, each young person creates a personalised learning plan designed around their specific interests and learning goals. 

They can work toward completing Big Picture’s IBPLC qualification which is recognised by over 20 universities across Australia. A QCE pathway can also be embedded into their curriculum.

Beyond this, we also offer a range of Vocational Education Training (VET) options, workplace learning and UniSQ’s UniPrep program.
