Supporting Learning, Wellbeing and Safety

JCC Values: Trust, Honesty, Authenticity, Accountability

JCC Vision: Develop young people who are motivated, equipped and empowered to see and create their meaningful future.

JCC Purpose: To provide a safe, personalised, inclusive, authentic and engaging learning experience that meets the needs of all young people where they are at.

Elements of Engagement

Communication

It is expected that parents/carers and visitors to our school will:

• Be respectful and polite to others.
• Act as positive role models.
• Recognise and respect personal differences.
• Use the school's communication/complaints process to address concerns.

Parents/carers and visitors to our school community demonstrate this by:

• Using respectful spoken and written language.
• Speaking and behaving respectfully at all times.
• Communicating student attendance and enrolment concerns.
• Using social media appropriately — by not posting pictures, videos or comments of staff, other parents or students without consent or in a negative/bullying manner.

Collaboration

It is expected that parents/carers and visitors to our school will:

• Support your child/students to meet the learning and behavioural expectation of the school by supporting the student working agreement.
• Raise grievances appropriately and productively.
• Understand that the JCC staff are responsible for supporting the whole community.

Parents/carers and visitors to our school community demonstrate this by:

• Working with us to resolve any issues, if/when they arise — requesting a meeting to discuss any concerns or complaints and allowing staff relevant time to respond.
• Understanding that at times, compromises may be necessary.
• Complying with any relevant parenting orders and agreements or other lawful requirements to which you may be subject.
• Not approaching another student from the school regarding your concerns.

School Culture

It is expected that parents/carers and visitors to our school will:

• Support the JCC purpose.
• Contribute to a positive school culture.
• Support that JCC is a drug and alcohol free zone.
• Consider the privacy of all community members.
• Demonstrate positive working relationships.
• Demonstrate safe and legal behaviours.
• Respect that JCC is a safe space for young people and the JCC community.

Parents/carers and visitors to our school community demonstrate this by:

• Being a responsible visitor and participant.
• Not being aggressive or violent towards others or on the JCC grounds.
• Not transporting other JCC students in your vehicle, without their parents'/guardians' prior knowledge and consent.
• Interacting positively when attending school events.
• Supporting and adhering to the school's relevant policies.

How Can JCC Better Support Parents and Community Members to Follow the Expected Code of Conduct?

• Providing access to up-to-date policies and information regarding expectations of behaviours and codes.
• Providing clear communication of processes.
• Listening to grievances and concerns and making efforts to resolve them.
• Providing opportunities for parents and community members to meet to discuss issues in a respectful and timely manner.
• Providing space for parent and community feedback, including complaints.
• Treating parents and community members with respect, care and courtesy.
• Maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.

What Happens if There is a Breach of the Parent and Community Code of Conduct?

The JCC Co-Principals and JCC Board members will have discretion on deciding how to best respond to concerns about compliance with the code.

Where it is considered that a parent or member of the community has breached this code, the Principal may implement one or more of the following actions:

• Request that the relevant conduct immediately ceases.
• A written warning.
• The person being asked not to come onto the school premises (banned) for a period of time.
• A requirement that the person only communicate with a nominated school representative.
• Where appropriate, report inappropriate behaviour to police or other authorities.
• Termination of the student's enrolment — if the behaviour is from a parent/guardian.
